Eugenio Coccia elected Rector of GSSI

Eugenio Coccia has been elected Rector of the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI), the newly-formed School of Advanced Studies based in L’Aquila.

Experimental physicist and full professor at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Coccia is a co-author of the discovery of gravitational waves and of the first observation of black holes. He was the Director of the INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory from 2003 to 2009, and of GSSI from its foundation in 2012 to date.

Coccia was elected this morning by the initial Academic Senate, and will start his mandate after his appointment by the Minister of Education through a decree.
