European Commitee for Future Accelerators 30 June - 1 July

Today June 30 and tomorrow July 1, the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) will host the 99° Plenary ECFA Meeting (European Commitee for Future Accelerators).

For two days, the members of ECFA Plenary Committee will be engaged in discussing technologies and experimental facilities used for research in elementary particles and high energy physics.

The National Institute for Nuclear Physics is the reference national research entity in the field of elementary particles physics, keeping alive the great tradition of Italian physics in this specific field since the early 1900s.

During the meeting the participants will be engaged in the review of activities in the field of particle physics in the main European laboratories. LNGS researchers will report the main research activities carried out at Gran Sasso, such as dark matter, nuclear astrophysics and neutrino physics, and high sensitivity equipment.

Fabiola Gianotti, General Director of CERN, presented the report on its activities.

Tomorrow, July 1, the members of the Committee will focus on accelerators’ physics and theoretical and experimental activities on gravitational waves.

At the end of the session, guests will visit LNGS underground structures.
