The Gran Sasso National Laboratories and Princeton University, New Jersey, USA, are proud to announce the Gran Sasso-Princeton School of Physics 2011.

This school will take place at Princeton University between July 23 and August 13, 2011. The program is open to students enrolled in the fourth and fifth year of high schools located in Abruzzo. A number of 20 students will be selected on a competitive basis giving preference to fourth year students. The participants in the program will be offered the flight ticket to and back from Princeton and full accommodation and board in the Princeton campus. The activities in Princeton will include: physics courses in the field of physics and astrophysics that the Gran Sasso Laboratory is involved with, laboratory activities, and English courses. Physics classes will be offered in Italian.. As in 2010 also the new edition will see the participation of ten South Dakota students which, after a brief period at Gran Sasso National Laboratories, will join the Italian students to reach Princeton University. South Dakota is the US State where the realization of a physics laboratory, similar to Gran Sasso, has been proposed.

Students interested in the program should submit their application by April 11, 2011. The application must be submitted in writing to:

The letter should be accompanied by a short essay (1-2 pages) where the student explains the reasons of his/her interest in the program. A photocopy of the school report cards of past academic year should be included. Students must also arrange to have a letter of recommendation by their physics professor. Candidates will have to undertake a written examination on May 5, 2011 - 10.30 a.m., at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory. The test will deal with physics, math and chemistry programs of high school.

Princeton is a small and pleasant university town located one hour by train from New York City and Philadelphia. Princeton offers a lot of attractions during the summer.
Students will have weekends and some afternoons free to explore one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States.
Princeton fame is mainly due to the high standard of the teaching staff, among which several Nobel Prize. Even Einstein lived and worked in Princeton for 30 years.
Among local attractions, the battlefield where Washington defeated the English troops during the American Revolution.
Guided tours to New York, Philadelphia and Washington are scheduled at week ends.
