Lectures on Magnetar

A magnetar is a type of neutron star with an extremely powerful magnetic field. The magnetic field decay powers the emission of high-energy electromagnetic radiation, particularly X-rays and gamma rays. The magnetar hypothesis has become widely accepted as a likely explanation for soft gamma repeaters(SGRs) and anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs).

Lectures are included in the activities program of CFA (Gran Sasso Center for Astroparticle Physics) of the EU funded project "La Società della Conoscenza in Abruzzo" (PO FSE Abruzzo 2007-2013 - Piano degli Interventi 2009-2010-2011).
