Access to Wireless Network

The Computing and Network Service manages the public wireless network at LNGS. It presently covers all the external buildings at LNGS.

The wireless network infrastructure implements the specifications of the INFN-TRIP project (The Roaming INFN Physicist), which allows all INFN employees to access the wireless network of any INFN site, using the credentials (username and password) used a their home site.

The available networks are:

  1. INFN-Web: used by external guests. The authentication is based on access through a web browser with an unencrypted data transmission. Users registered at other INFN sites can access this network by using their INFN digital certificate.
  2. INFN-dot1x: used by all persons who have an account on INFN and LNGS public login machine. Such network use an encrypted data transmission based on WPA/TKIP e WPA2/AES protocols.
  3. eduroam: used by all persons who have an account on INFN and LNGS public login machine and roaming users who belong to the Eudoram project’s organizations. The roaming users can access to the network using the same credentials (username and password) that they use in their organizations.
  4. LNGS-Portal: used by LNGS registered users (both staff and visitors). The authentication is based on access through a web browser with an unencrypted data transmission. The user visibility depends on the kind of user: LNGS staff can access both the internal LAN resources and the Internet, guests can only access the external network.
