Gran Sasso Hands-on 2025 is a summer school designed to engage PhD students in research projects at the Laboratori Nazionali Gran Sasso (LNGS), a world leading facility in underground physics, astroparticle physics, and nuclear astrophysics.
The program is co-organized by LNGS, L'Aquila University's Physics and Chemistry Department, and the Gran Sasso Science Institute, with support from the Technical University of Munich. Students will participate in a 10-day experimental project in small groups, guided by LNGS, GSSI, and UnivAq scientists, to design and execute scientific experiments. The hands-on program covers topics such as general relativity, dark matter searches, neutrino physics, cosmic-ray physics, nuclear astrophysics, multi-messenger astrophysics, space-based detectors, and quantum technologies. To prepare participants, renowned experts will deliver introductory lectures on these areas. The school provides a unique scientific environment, encouraging multidisciplinary and multicultural collaboration. Students will gain valuable experience and build connections with peers and global scientists in this enriching setting.
The school will take place at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) of INFN from September 8th to 19th, 2025.
