The Service takes care of:

  • Management and maintenance of buildings in external laboratories;
  • Design of new buildings related to civil works in external laboratories;
  • The technical documentation concerning buildings, facilities and plants of the laboratories, managing its archive with the aid of the Technical Division Secretariat;

Authorizations, concerning city planning and revenue, for buildings in external laboratories.

General Service Office

The General Service Office, in the Building Service, cares of:

  • All services providing the general running of the laboratory, such as: canteen, cleaning and environmental hygiene, snow removal, gardening, internal transport and logistical support for conferences and special events;
  • Design and supply of furniture;
  • Key custody for technical rooms and offices located in external laboratories.

The Service deals with:

  • management, maintenance and design of supervision and control systems, fire detection and extinguishing systems of laboratories;
  • management, maintenance and design of special facilities of laboratories, such as CCTV, security systems and gas monitoring.

The Service manages:

  • Water purification plants;
  • Special Waste Management (identification and disposal of special waste material, application form to make request for containers, recyclable-waste collection, storage);
  • Quality control of liquid effluents and atmospheric emissions;
  • Environmental authorizative procedures;
  • Coordination of the Environmental Management System of LNGS, certified in accordance with the international standard ISO EN UNI 14001 (see also the "Environment" page of the web site).


Water quality controls are performed by an underground Environmental Monitoring Laboratory, established in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9001 and UNI CEI EN ISO 17025 standards.

  • design, management and control of laboratory electrical systems, from Medium Voltage Supply to Low Voltage distribution, including diesel power generators and UPS;
  • management of the telephony system of laboratories.
